A local practice for considered, value driven architectural design

Wheelhouse Architecture is a small, owner-led practice based in Frankston, serving Melbourne's south-east and the Mornington Peninsula.

What you can expect

A culture of transparency and humility. We treat clients as part of the team and explain trade-offs in plain English, not architect-speak. Every decision is traceable back to your brief, your budget and your site.

Where we work

We're based at 435 Nepean Highway, Frankston, and most of our projects sit between bayside municipalities ranging from Port Phillip and Yarra Councils to the north, and Frankston and Mornington Peninsula councils in the south — though we take on work anywhere in metropolitan Melbourne and greater Victoria (as well as interstate in some cases).

The experience we bring

WHA is a young practice, but it's not led by inexperienced hands. Founding director Kieran Bast spent the years before WHA contributing to substantial public-sector work — Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) school projects, council-led sports pavilions, surf life saving clubs, and civic facilities — totalling more than $80m in built value at previous employers. That depth of sector experience now feeds directly into the rigour, documentation discipline, and consultant-coordination skill we apply to every WHA brief, residential or otherwise.

What we believe

Good architecture should be accessible. That's why we offer fixed-fee pre-design reports — Site Intelligence, Dwelling Strategy, Development Feasibility — so you can engage us at any commitment level, from a single report to a full design and documentation engagement.
